What if insulation could combine high thermal performance, practical construction use and a CO₂-neutral product footprint?
Ecolation is developing CO₂-mineralised insulation materials designed to rethink what an insulation product can contribute to a building project.
The company started as a project in the Master’s in Sustainability, Entrepreneurship & Innovation at ESCP Business School in cooperation with the UN Environment Programme. One question kept coming up: could a circular fibre-based material integrate mineral functionality without compromising the performance logic of mainstream insulation?
Since then we have been building Ecolation with a clear ambition: create CO₂-neutral high-performance insulation without compromising real-world applicability. The goal is not to be another ecological niche material. It is to develop a platform with the technical and commercial logic to compete in the insulation market.
A material platform built for real projects
Ecolation combines recycled cellulose with a mineralisation process and a highly porous structure. The platform is being developed across blow-in insulation, mats and soft to semi-rigid boards so planners and installers can use the format that best fits each project.
Our development targets include thermal conductivity of 0.029 W/mK, practical fire-performance pathways, strong summer heat protection and a competitive material cost. Better thermal performance can enable thinner wall build-ups and unlock more sellable or rentable floor area.
Meet the founding team
Dominik Thiel, CEO, originated the Ecolation concept and production design. With a background in Industrial Engineering at TU Berlin and a Master’s in Sustainability, Entrepreneurship & Innovation at ESCP Business School, he bridges science and economics. He leads strategy, business development and technology oversight.
Dr. Abbas Beheshti Askari, CSO, brings the scientific depth required to create a material that performs outside the lab. His experience spans inorganic synthesis, advanced characterisation and performance-driven optimisation. He leads the scientific roadmap and builds the evidence base for a scalable and certifiable product.
Dr. Torsten Reiss, CFO, leads finance, investor relations and operations. His background spans capital markets, board-level leadership, consulting and hands-on company building across Europe and the United States.
Fred Dahl, Head of Strategic Capital, adds decades of executive leadership, private banking experience and strategic capital expertise. Together the founding team connects material science, business development, finance and capital strategy.
What comes next
Ecolation is moving from scientific concept toward proof through disciplined validation. That means building reproducible material formulations, testing performance assumptions and working with research, testing, construction and industrial partners.
If you work in building materials, construction, testing and certification, industrial scale-up or deeptech investment we would be glad to start a conversation.
